Isaiah 40:11 "He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young."

taking thoughts captive
John Patrick has been having a hard time sleeping lately because of "bad guy dreams". So tonight I explained "taking every though captive to the obedience of Christ." And encouraged him to say his nighttime verse and to think of all the fun things he likes to think about or sing some songs. As I'm walking back down the hallway I hear him start singing, "take me out to the baaaaall game." precious.
In about ten minutes he yells, "mommy!" "it worked for a little while but I can't think of anything else." (he's sooooo sleepy mind you he just can't turn his imagination off.) So, I told him to just say his bible verse over and over in his head. I forgot to mention the "until you get to sleep" part. Five minutes later he calls again, "My brain just keeps falling asleep."
I told him I was proud and turned the hall light on. I love that kid.

putt-putt at uncle jay and aunt jessica's church harvest party
Darn this picture being blurry
yummy harvest party candy
exhausted and full of yummy treats

Boone Valley Scenic Rail Road
I love this next picture of John giving Dora her ticket. Have any of you ever read The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom? If not, you should. Here is why I love this picture:
All Aboard!

yummy Doritos with lunch
taking in the view

very crunchy Crunch n Munch

Nella with Aunt Jessica

These seats are way more roomy than the airplane

The view was beautiful. I never thought about the fact that you can't see the bridge under you when you're on it. It was a little like riding on air.

Corrie is a young child who is scared of those she loves dying and her Father is a watch maker who takes her to Amsterdam each week to re-set his watch according to the Naval Observatory:
"That night as he stepped through the doors I burst into tears, "I need you!" I sobbed. "You can't die! You can't!"... Father sat down on the edge of the bed. "Corrie," he began gently, "when you and I go to Amsterdam-when do I give you your ticket?" I sniffed a few times, considering this. "Why, just before we get on the train." "Exactly. And our wise Father in heaven knows when we're going to need things, too. Don't run out ahead of Him, Corrie. When the time comes that some of us will have to die, you will look into your heart and find the strength you need-just in time."
She and her family went to a concentration camp because they hid Jews in their home. It's an incredible story. read it!

My Father's Influence and the age of the internet
As I came into the room John Patrick greeted me with:
"Hellooooo, Nurse! That's from the Warner Brothers."
I love that my dad watched old Animaniac episodes with my kids when they spend the night. I mean really, if they're going to quote a cartoon I think Animaniacs is hilarious.
Also that day, Dora didn't want to nap and I told John Patrick I wasn't sure why. (Because you know we mom's like to obsess over things like this instead of just moving on. At least I do.) Anyway, John Patrick's very thoughtful advice was, "Let's hook it up on the Internet to see why children don't sleep."
I guess that tells you that I don't know most answers to his four year old questions and we LOVE google around here.

The Timeless Struggle of Men :-)
John Patrick said (with quite a bit of exasperation for the first hour of the day) to Dora this morning as we were headed to the breakfast table:
"Dora! You have so many words! You can't just say all those! You can't just fling them all out of your mouth!"
